Fifteen Guinea Special

On 11th August 1968 British Rail ran it's last ever mainline passenger steam hauled service - The Fifteen Guinea Special. The train ran from Liverpool Lime Street to Carlisle via Manchester Victoria and the Settle and Carlisle line.


40 years later on the 10th August 2008 a re-run of this famous working took place operated by West Coast Railways. Despite the less than ideal weather conditions hundreds of people turned out to see it.


BR Class 7MT 4-6-2 no 70013 Oliver Cromwell hauled the train between Manchester and Carlisle in both 1968 and 2008.
